What an awesome day we had this past Saturday at our kids fishing derby. We had 43 kids in all which included some very special kids from Paducah that we were blessed with. Most of the kids caught fish, they all had a good time. Some left with trophies, none of them left empty handed. We fed their stomach, their minds, and their heart. Brother Steve did his usual wonderful job of giving a bible lesson. Many bibles were passed out. Rod and reel combo’s were supplied to the kids from Paducah by Dunn’s Outdoors. And we let the kids keep them. One child was so excited he cried when he found out he could keep his. He said he was going to sleep it. It was an amazing day, we were all a little emotional to say the least. It was a very humbling experience. We all need to keep these kids in our prayers. I will have much more to add about the derby and many more pictures to post. I’m still trying to catch my breath, keep checking back with us.

This past Saturday we had our first ever Co-ed tournament. We had a good turnout of 10 boats. I know more wanted to fish, but due to the rainout of the kids derby we had to move some events around that kind of messed things up for some. But we had a great time on Saturday. The fishing was a little tough but not horrible. We had wives, sisters, daughter’s, and nieces fishing with us. Before we started we had a time of devotion and prayer. Brother Steve and I reiterated Chris Wells’ message about how our country needs to repent and pray without ceasing. We believe that God has already declared judgment on our country due to the fact that we have turned away from Him. As Chris has already done I would like to challenge each of you to pray everyday for one min. for our country at 3:10 P.M. Maybe, just maybe if enough of us repent and pray God will lift His judgment on us.

About the fishing, only two limits were brought in. And the husband and wife team of Lonnie and Heather Means had the best sack of fish with a limit of 5 that weighed 13lbs. even. Lonnie and Heather also had the biggest fish with a 3-9 Largemouth. In second today was brother and sister Mike Hillebrand and Teresa Vance. They had 5 fish that weighed 12-6. And in third place was husband and wife Matt and Melanie Carter. Matt and Melanie brought in 3 fish that weighed 8-12. Congratulations to our winners. Don’t forget our kids fishing derby on June 8th at the Southland Baptist Ranch in Lovelaceville. I will have more details about the derby next week.

With the kids fishing derby being rained out last week, we will be changing some events on the schedule. Our next event is on May 11th. And this will now be the co-ed tournament. We will take off at KDM and devotion and prayer will start at 5:30. Check in is at 1:00. Entry fee is only $10. Their will be no payout for this tournament, prizes will be awarded. We will go and eat somewhere afterwards. Anyone is eligible to fish, as long as partners are of the opposite sex.

The kids derby has been rescheduled for June 8th. All times and structure are the same. However, the location has been changed. We will be using the new Southland Baptist Ranch. It is located in Lovelaceville. It is very easy to find and we will give detailed directions when we get closer. This is a beautiful place that Southland has, it is currently still under construction and won’t be fully operational until next April. But we fill like this is still a great place to hold our kids derby. They have two ponds that are very clean all the way around them.It has An old dance hall that is being converted into a Sanctuary. It is air conditioned and this is where we will eat and give out awards and door prizes. The bathrooms are pretty good distance from where the ponds are, not impossible to walk, but we will offer transportation via golf carts for anyone needing to use the facilities.

The river tournament will be fished on Sept. 21st. Their are a lot of members who still wanted to have the river tournament. The flooding should be long gone by then. And we may add another lake tournament later in the summer, we will revisit this at a later time.

It was awesome day to be on the water. Light winds and an abundance of sunshine made for a great tournament. Another great turnout of 18 boats took off out of Big Bear about 6:00 A.M. We had 5 boats with a limit and 3 with 4 fish. Good weights today was the theme also as some pretty nice sacks did not place. Randy Johnson and Gregg Sallee took the honors today with an impressive 5 that weighed 17lbs. and 5 oz. In second was Brad Flowers and Chris Braun with 4 fish at 16lbs. and 9 oz. Coming in third were the Russell brothers who had 5 fish that weighed 16-8. In fourth was Brent Stevenson and nephew Tyler Stevenson who’s 5 fish limit weighed 16-4. You can see all the results below. Before we started Matt Carter gave an awesome devotion and of course we prayed. Our next event is in two weeks with our annual kids fishing derby at Mike Miller Park. We are in need of much help this year. Ah, the old reliable hula popper. Growing up that was my dad’s favorite lure. I don’t know that would be the best choice for this coming Saturday, but it is time to head to the lake again for what will be our 3rd tournament of the year. As of today the weather looks really nice. Lets hope it turns out that way. We will meet at Big Bear. Devotion and prayer start at 5:30. Check in is at 2:30. New members always welcome.

Our kids derby is less than 3 weeks away. We are in need of some helpers. We are bringing in some kids from Paducah who are going through a rough time, up to 24 of them. Chris has a passionate concern for people who don’t know Jesus Christ and has a  heart for sportsmen and students. He is a full time Evangelist and is currently the Chaplain for the Fellowship of Christian Anglers of the Bassmaster Elite Series.

Chris is a native of South Carolina, and was raised in Summerton, SC near the banks of the Santee Cooper lakes. He is a graduate of Clarendon Hall Academy, Francis Marion College, and attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Chris was saved at a young age, and was called into the ministry while attending Francis Marion College. In college Chris discovered he had a gift for communicating the gospel to young people, and has served several Churches and organizations in youth ministry for the last 15 years. While doing Youth ministry God began to allow Chris to speak extensively to a variety of audiences all over the country.  As he began to pray about this he felt God leading him into a full time speaking ministry. In 2004 after much prayer and counsel Wellspoken Ministries was created.

Chris combines a blend of humor, passion, and intensity to convey his concern for people who don’t know Jesus.  His messages are exciting, expositional, and inspirational with a strong evangelistic emphasis. He speaks to a wide range of audiences, challenging them to authentic faith in the person of Jesus Christ. He is available to do Wild Game Banquets, Men’s events, Youth rallies, retreats, seminars, school assemblies, revivals, camps, athletic events and conferences. Chris is and avid “Outdoorsman” and is the self proclaimed “Americas Bass Pro Wannabee.” In 2004 he was asked to Co-host the Fishers of Men Outdoor television show on the Fox Sports Network.  He is very effective with fishermen and hunters as well as students.

Chris and his wife Pam now live in Greer , South Carolina, and they have two sons, Stephen and Wesley.  They are members of Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors, SC, where Chris has served as Student pastor and Minister of Evangelism.

What an awesome day it was to be able to fish and worship our Lord and Savior all in one setting. Two CAST records were broken today. First we had a whopping 23 boat turnout today, praise the Lord. I will get to the second in a minute. We started the day in the dark and cold temps at the banks of Kentucky Dam Marina with prayer and devotion. We talked about Daniel in the Lion’s den and how he could not live a single day without worshipping his God even if it meant his life. We prayed for many individuals needing intense prayer, several of which are members or members family. Then we fished.

Our second record was broken by Matt Carter and Erick Osborne. These guys had one of those days we all dream about. Matt and Erick had an awesome day bringing in 5 fish that weighed 24 lbs. and 3 oz. They also had the big fish of the day with a nice 7 lb. 3 oz. largemouth. Great job guys. In second place today was Derrick Johnson and Ethan Travelstead.  They brought to the scales 5 fish at 17lbs. and 2 oz. Their was a tie for third place at 16 lbs. and 10 oz. Brent Lanier and Danny Everett, and Austin Brown and Kevin Auderdile shared the winnings from  3rd and 4th place. And in 5th place was Brian Glover and Jason Gratz who brought in 4 fish at 15lbs. and 13 oz. Congratulations to our winners. See all of the results below.
